Spent a couple of days out in Bolinas with my dear Sister Mary and worked on this painting in the peace of the foggy mornings.
July 15, 2013 – I think the glass is about done… not sure

I’ve come to think that it’s a lot easier to paint highly detailed cut glass like in Blush than this one.
There’s a lot of subtlety and shades of green that are giving me a challenge! Time to move on to the rose on the fence rail and see how what I’ve done her sits with me.
July 12, 2013 – Roses in a green glass cup – starting on the glass

I’m taking it really, really slowly, seeing all the layers of color and contrasts in the values. Though it’s far from done, from a distance, it’s starting to read. It’s easier than it seems – really! – to paint glass. It’s a process of taking it slow and painting what we see.
July 5, 2013 – Roses and lavender – I’ve been working on the background

Looking at the photo I see a few places I want to work on a bit more. Fun to see the silhouette of the subject once the background is all in.
A Confession
I fell into the pit of getting waaaaayyyy behind in updating this online art journal. Once the second weekly group started, I didn’t keep it in my routine and it got harder and harder to get back on track. I swore that I wouldn’t do that – I’d keep it up. And I didn’t. My niece Amanda and I spent all day yesterday getting the images sized and uploaded and posting them.
As of right now I’m completely current – up to the class we had today. To all of you subscribers to the blog updates, I’m SO sorry for the inundation of emails. I didn’t realize you got one for EACH post! Holy Cow! I will endeavor to make sure the updates are kept up so that you can follow along on the progress.

Roses in a green glass cup – sparkling in the sun outside, or:
A big square piece of Mike’s grapes, or:
Chocolates that I started in late March…?
April 2013 – just not feelin’ it with the roses, I’m in the tropics…

I started this one a couple of years ago. I’m glad I brought it along. I’m so in the mood to paint this here – it’s fresher and cooler.
A day later – almost all the background is in.
Here it is done. I changed the color of the flowers from pink to white with a pink blush. That was fun!
April 2013 – off to Kauai – Paris map stays home

The Paris map is too large to travel easily with, so I’ve got a couple other pieces drawn to paint. One is this one of hot red-orange-pink roses. Here’s the background done – love those negative spaces outlining the subject.
